Our Mission

The Filipino American Association strives to spread awareness of Filipino culture throughout Indiana University.

FAA is a student-led cultural and social organization that provides its members with a community where individuals of both Filipino and non-Filipino backgrounds can unite to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the Philippines and its culture. We aim to empower our members through cultural exploration while giving them the opportunity to express their own identities and interests. FAA is also a safe place where the members are more along the lines of family and friends rather than peers.

FAA spreads cultural awareness in many ways. We cultivate Filipino culture on campus by performing in events such as CultureFest, World's Fare, and Filipino Culture Night throughout the year. FAA also provides its members with meetings that incorporate workshops ranging from different topics such as social issues, professionalism, the history and traditions of the Philippines, Tagalog lessons and many more. FAA recently partnered with the Purposeful Unconditional Service to Others (P.U.S.O.) Foundation as part of their College Outreach Program, and is always looking for ways to incorporate philanthropic events that will benefit the Philippines. The relationships that are developed between members are a big part of FAA. FAA is also a social club that encourages members to actively participate in both cultural and social programs, such as the Ate/Kuya/Kapatid/Ading program, to bond and build a sense of family in the organization. FAA also works in collaboration with other Filipino student groups throughout the Midwest through involvement with an organization known as the Midwest Association of Filipino Americans. MAFA administers many professional and networking opportunities through unity conferences, leadership retreats, and cultural competitions between multiple schools.
